Hot tub vs Jacuzzi vs Spa
When people ask this question, they usually are asking if a spa with jets is better than a spa without jets, and we will answer his in-depth in this article.
However, we first need to ensure we are all talking the same language! Spa, hot tub and Jacuzzi are all used in modern language to describe the same thing. Jacuzzi is a brand name of the spa but it is often used to describe any make of spa. In the same way, we use the word Hoover to describe a vacuum cleaner!
Hot tubs were originally a round tub of warm water that was outside. The water was often heated by a wood burner situated next to it. You can still buy versions of these, and they are likely to give the user many of the health benefits of a modern spa. Source
In my articles, I prefer to use the term hot tub, as Spa can also mean a relaxing retreat where you can pay a large sum of money for a massage in a scented room!
Hot tubs without jets (Traditional Hot tub)
There are fewer manufacturers of hot tubs without jets because the demand for them is less. There are some beautifully designed wooden tubs I have seen on the market, but they tend to start at a high price point.
Many of the health benefits of using a hot tub, come from the warm water and the taking time out of our busy lives to relax. You would get these scientifically proven benefits from using a jet-less hot tub.
When I use my hot tub, I often relax without using the jets at all! For me, this is the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends over a nice glass of wine, and I find the bubbles can be noisy. This is particularly true if you are using the hot tub in the evening when you want to bask in natures consuming silence!
But my question to those of you who are looking to buy a hot tub with no jets is this – Why would you?!
Jacuzzi with Jets – hydrotherapy benefits
Buying a hot tub with jets so that you can enjoy the hydrotherapy benefits seems like the most sensible option especially given the price point of the two systems is very similar.

Jacuzzi is arguably the brand leader in designing its hot tubs with hydrotherapy at the forefront of the hot tub models. But the brand is a premium brand and comes with a premium price tag. There are other cheaper models and I have written an article on things to look for if you are in the market so you can enter the dealership with some knowledge under your belt. You can read that article by clicking here.
If you choose not to read the article, can I give you one piece of advice – If the salesperson in the dealership tries to sell you a hot tub based on the number of jets, turn around and walk out. Find another shop where they are not trying to scam you! The number of waterjets should not be the determining factor when choosing your hot tub!
Hot tub vs Jacuzzi ( Water Jets vs no Water Jets)
For me, having a hot tub with jets is always the best option. Whether your muscles are sore of you are just a little tense from the day, the water jets and their soothing massage wins hands down! To get the full hydrotherapy experience, I sit in each of the seats for a few minutes and when my session is over I feel like a new man!
Hot tub experiences,
You may not want to have hydrotherapy every time you use the hot tub and this is a personal opinion. But if you do not have the jets, then you do not have a choice!!
